Anne Greenwood Brown explains the sidekick character. The sidekick always wants to follow the main character because it is exciting to do so, but that sidekick must have a purpose, a knowledge or something important that the main character needs and wouldn’t have without them. The main character may not realize, yet, that the sidekick has an important purpose, but the protagonist will end up being grateful. Anne asks: what does your sidekick have that your character needs and wouldn’t have without them?
