Zoe – For Colors

DEEP BLACK

Black is the dark

Which seems impenetrable

On nights when all you have

Are your own thoughts

Black is the shade

Cast by yourself

When you peer down

From the second story

Black is the deep

That holds the unknown

And all

That we fear

Black is the dark in which

We all fall asleep

BURNING RED

Roses used to fall from their lips

Now all that fall are thorns

And when they talk

They only see in blinding red

Not the sweet red of a new dawn

But of something deeper

Burning them up inside

And whereas they used to keep each other’s fire lit

They now only seek to smother each other out

It is not a pretty red

But it’s just as consuming

As before

BLUE HAIKU

The dark waves thundered

Beckoning me towards their dance

I stayed on the beach
