From Imagination to Sound: Oak-Land’s Creative Podcast Journey
Story Ark, and their supportive teaching staff, Meghan Bridges, Cadence Nunn and Amanda Hayden have returned to Oakland Middle School for a second year! Story Ark is a non-profit organization that helps students become creative storytellers by working together to produce podcasts, short films, and creative writing projects. Students in Mrs. Sontgerath’s English classroom had the exciting opportunity to create their own podcast. For three weeks in November, students worked in groups to write creative stories and record their podcasts with the support of a professional sound engineer.
Ayaka, a Japanese student who just started at Oak-Land, says that “the fun part of Story Ark was making a story.”

“It’s been fun to see students engage with writing in such a creative way and work together to create a final product at all levels of language production,” says Mrs. Sontgerath.
After the students record their podcast, sound engineer Jenna Yaron works her magic to finalize it. The students will celebrate their hard work at a red carpet event, where they will hear their story come to life with the sounds of speeding cars, monsters, spooky music, and creaking floors— a moment they are all excited about!
