This painting shows a girl that represents me waking up at 6:00 am with my makeup still on from the day before. It represents the amount of times I’ve fallen asleep with my homework laid out in front of me. During school weeks high schoolers never have time to do something outside of constant homework. Studies show that the average teen doesnt go to sleep until 11pm-1am. This only allows for about 7 hours of sleep at most. Teenagers need 8-10 hours of sleep to stay the most energized and healthy. Studies show the bad effects waking up that early does to teenagers especially when we are asked to be focused and learn. In the painting you see a messy room and a cup with bugs around it that shows how much one can let themselves go especially when their whole life revolves around school and nothing else. It reflects the theme because being sleep deprived really holds you back and takes a toll on your mental health. It’s not healthy for a young teen to be missing sleep and not having time for themselves. School starts too early for our young brains to flourish and be at our best potential.
